From its very first images, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis pulls us into a striking futuristic vision in which humanity struggles not to be crushed by progress. For its centennial, this monument of silent cinema is reborn as a live cine‑concert in its restored extended version.
Beneath the city, workers march in unison, consumed by colossal machines. Above them, in the upper city, a carefree elite surveys its empire. Between these two worlds reign tension, oppression, and uprising.
Under the direction of Frank Strobel, the OSM performs Gottfried Huppertz’s powerful score live, revealing the full modernity of a masterpiece that has profoundly shaped the aesthetics of science‑fiction cinema.
